Jonny Evans believes ten Hag is building something special at United

Jonny Evans believes that Manchester United, under Erik ten Hag, are on a positive path despite their shaky start to the season.

While they faced challenges after a promising first season under the Dutchman, the Red Devils suffered four losses in their first six matches in all competitions, a feat not seen since 1986.

Despite these setbacks, the pressure was mounting on the Old Trafford giants before their Saturday Premier League match against Burnley. The ten Hag-led team secured a 1-0 victory, thanks to Bruno Fernandes’ outstanding volley.

Evans, who watched the Wembley triumph in February from the stands, has returned to the club where he began his career as a young player. The experienced defender is optimistic about United’s future.

Jonny Evans couldn’t wait to start for Manchester United

“I’ve had some up and down moments at Man United over the years,” said Evans, who won three Premier League titles and a Champions League during his previous spell at the club.

“I think you get that if you want to be at the top. You know, it’s going to be very up and down.

“You’ve got to be able to deal with setbacks and this club is a fantastic club, always want to be challenging at the top, so it’s all part and parcel of it.

“The manager’s got a good thing going here.

“I’m a fan of the club so I was able to watch them a lot last year, been at both finals to support. Like I say, I think the manager’s got a good thing going.”

But on Saturday evening, Jonny Evans made his second appearance of the season and his first start for Manchester United in eight and a half years. Additionally, the 35-year-old put on an impressive performance against Vincent Kompany’s Burnley, scoring a disallowed goal and delivering an exceptional pass that led to Bruno Fernandes’ volleyed winning goal.

“That was great,” the Northern Irishman said after his 200th United appearance. “I was really looking forward to it all day.

“And I got the shout yesterday in training that I was going to be starting, so I couldn’t wait for the game, really.

“I was more nervous in the pre-season, my first pre-season game, to be honest, playing up in Edinburgh.

“I didn’t feel any nerves tonight. And I actually felt a lot of excitement going into the game. I couldn’t wait for it and I felt good, I felt ready.”
