Lisandro Martinez set to undergo second surgery which’ll keep him out until 2024

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez is set to undergo a second foot operation, which may keep him out of action until next year.

The Athletic reports that Lisandro Martinez is expected to be sidelined for approximately three months following another surgery on a foot injury.

Lisandro Martinez had previously missed nearly two months of the 2022-23 season due to a broken metatarsal in his right foot, which required surgery after an injury sustained in a Europa League match against Sevilla.

Although he returned during the preseason, he experienced discomfort in the same area during United’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal in September.

Despite briefly returning to play against Brighton in the Premier League and Bayern Munich in the Champions League, the ongoing issue with the metatarsal has led the club’s medical staff to opt for a second surgery to ensure a full recovery from this persistent injury.

Erik ten Hag is dealing with a defensive crisis at Manchester United, with numerous players, including full-backs Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Sergio Reguilon, currently sidelined due to injuries.

As a result, he has been compelled to deploy defensive midfielder Sofyan Amrabat as a makeshift left-back, while Raphael Varane has partnered with Victor Lindelof at the center of the defense.
