Kalvin Phillips speculates about his future amid Bayern Munich interest

Kalvin Phillips has hinted that he might leave Manchester City in the January transfer window due to interest from Bayern Munich.

Despite having limited playing time under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium, the midfielder was surprisingly in England’s starting lineup for their 3-1 Euro 2024 qualifying victory over Italy.

Phillips, who has only made three substitute appearances for City in the Premier League this season, emphasized the need for more playing time to secure his spot in the England starting XI. He also disclosed that he would evaluate his future in the coming months before 2024.

“I know that I need to be playing games and competing every weekend,” he told reporters. “I’m going to have to make a decision on [my future] over the next months. He [Gareth Southgate] just says that for me to keep my spot I have to be playing games. That’s what I want to do. I have agreed with Gareth on that.”

Bayern Munich is reportedly interested in Kalvin Phillips and may make a bid for the midfielder in the January transfer window.

Phillips, who joined Manchester City in a £45 million ($55 million) transfer in July 2022, has been on Bayern’s radar. Thomas Tuchel is reportedly a fan of the midfielder and might seek a short-term loan deal.

Additionally, Manchester City is likely to allow him to leave if they receive a satisfactory offer, as they were already open to selling him in the summer. However, Phillips chose to stay at the Etihad at that time.

Phillips will return to Manchester City after a successful international break, hoping to make an impression in training before Manchester City’s upcoming Premier League match against Brighton on Saturday.
