Former Tottenham player Matt Doherty thinks the club should continue with Antonio Conte, despite his inflammatory outburst after Spurs’ 3-3 draw against Southampton.
Antonio Conte’s future at the north London club has been questioned following his explosive criticism of the players and the club’s culture after the 3-3 draw against Southampton on Saturday.
The 53-year-old described his players as “selfish” and also pointed out that the current ownership has not led the club to any titles in the last 20 years.
Conte criticized players and the club In his recent press conference
The possibility of the club sacking the Italian has sparked widespread speculation. Nonetheless, Doherty, who departed the club in January for Atletico Madrid on a free transfer, defended the Italian.
“I hope he stays for a long time at Tottenham,” he told reporters.
“He’s an unbelievable coach, an unbelievable manager. He won’t say anything in the press that he won’t say to his players, he’s completely honest with his players, has the passion for the whole club.
“I hope Tottenham stick by him and hold onto him for as long as possible, he’s one of the best managers of all time.”
