Chelsea 4-4 Manchester City: The Blues of London and Manchester deliver a Premier League classic

Chelsea and Manchester City delivered one of the most memorable contests in Premier League history as they hit four past each other, both refusing to bow down.

London may have witnessed torrential rain once again but Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge was on fire despite it. In a game that will go down as one for the history books, Chelsea managed to rival, and even at times best, the title-holders Manchester City, resulting in a 4-4 draw that delivered on every level.

In a high-scoring encounter where both teams found the net four times, Palmer, facing his former club, equalized in the 94th minute after Armando Broja was fouled by Ruben Dias in the box. The outcome resulted in City’s lead at the top of the Premier League being reduced to just one point, while Chelsea climbed up to the top half of the table following two impressive results in the span of a week.

Manchester City received a penalty after a tussle in the box between Marc Cucurella and Erling Haaland, resulting in the latter falling in the six-yard box. Although a VAR check indicated shirt tugging between both players, the penalty decision stood, and Haaland confidently converted from the 12-yard spot.

Chelsea vs Manchester City: VAR was once again questioned

This goal ignited Chelsea, with Reece James forcing Ederson into a crucial save from a free kick, followed by Thiago Silva’s equalizer from the ensuing corner kick. The experienced center-back elegantly nodded the ball across the goal and into the far bottom corner.

City intensified their pressure on Chelsea’s defense through the efforts of Phil Foden. The English international troubled Cucurella on the right flank and came close to making it 2-1, narrowly missing the left post.

Despite the evident dominance, it was Chelsea that secured the next goal in the 36th minute. This goal resulted from a defensive lapse by Josko Gvardiol in his own box, losing sight of the ball. Reece James seized the opportunity to steal in and deliver a square pass across the goal to Raheem Sterling, the former Man City player, who efficiently swept the ball into the net.

In added time at the end of the first half, Manuel Akanji found himself completely unmarked in the heart of the penalty area, and he made no mistake with a header that cannoned past Sanchez.

Pep Guardiola’s team started the second half with great intensity and managed to take the lead through their star player, Haaland. The forward initiated a quick counter-attack, culminating in Julian Alvarez playing the ball back to Haaland at the back post, where he bundled the ball home.

Chelsea are starting to cobble together a good run of games

On the hour mark, there was a near-miss for the 3-3 equalizer when Cole Palmer showcased some magic, maneuvering past three Man City players to enter the penalty area. However, despite all the hard work, Palmer’s final shot on goal disappointed, only managing to hit Ederson’s midriff with a timid strike.

Shortly after, the scoreline did reach 3-3. Nicolas Jackson, who had been notably quiet throughout the game, suddenly sprang to life, seizing the opportunity to tap home the equalizer after Ederson palmed away a Conor Gallagher strike.

It was evident that this wouldn’t be the final goal of the game, and indeed, it wasn’t. In the 85th minute, Rodri seized on a loose ball at the edge of the box, and his first-time effort deflected off the foot of Thiago Silva and into the net.

Remarkably, even that wasn’t the last goal. In the 92nd minute, Ruben Dias fouled substitute Armando Broja in the box, and Cole Palmer stepped up to rifle home the equalizer.
