Thomas Frank addresses Ivan Toney rumors

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has given an update on Ivan Toney’s future amid reported interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.

Ivan Toney is in the final weeks of his eight-month suspension for breaching the FA’s betting rules. Although he will be eligible to play for Brentford again on January 18, there are speculations about potential moves to Arsenal or Chelsea during the upcoming winter transfer window.

Brentford manager Frank was quizzed on his star striker’s future in an interview with the Evening Standard.

“Everyone saw what he did last year. It’s not like he broke a leg or did his ACL, so he’s fit and probably even more ambitious to get success. I’m convinced he will be absolutely on it. I don’t want to lose him. I hope, and think, he’ll be a Brentford player on February 1,” Thomas Frank said.

Frank doesn’t think that Brentford plans to sell Toney

Ivan Toney had a remarkable 2022-23 season, scoring 20 goals in the Premier League before his suspension. This achievement ranked him third in the division for goals, following Erling Haaland of Manchester City and Harry Kane of Tottenham.

Brentford reportedly values Toney at a minimum of £80 million ($99 million) in the upcoming January transfer window, with some sources suggesting they might even seek £100 million ($126 million).

Arsenal has a longstanding interest in Toney, while Chelsea, another club pursuing the English striker, has faced scoring challenges this season. With summer signing Christopher Nkunku sidelined due to injury and Nicolas Jackson struggling to adapt to the Premier League, Chelsea is reportedly considering Toney as a solution to their scoring woes.

The upcoming January transfer window is shaping up to be an intriguing saga, with Brentford expressing hopes of retaining Ivan Toney. Recent reports suggest that Toney is contemplating signing a new contract with the club, despite interest from other clubs. His current contract expires at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season.
