New Zealand mental coach Gilbert Enoka joins Potter’s staff to help them get the best out of their squad
To help Graham Potter optimize his team’s expensively assembled squad, Chelsea have hired Rugby team All Blacks mental coach.
Gilbert Enoka joins Chelsea on a ‘short-term consultancy basis’
Chelsea’s massive squad has the potential to lead to a disastrous locker room atmosphere with so many egos flying around. This has made the Blues look for a solution that has come in the form of a mental coach.
Since Graham Potter previously only worked in relatively small clubs like Swansea and Brighton, he might not be well-equipped to handle this many high-profile signings which include, World Cup winners and Champions League winners.
Chelsea has, therefore, opted to sign Gilbert Enoka whose influence on New Zealand’s rugby union has been massive in the past 20 years.
“A d***head makes everything about them.“
Enoka, who was New Zealand’s mental skills coach and then became their leadership manager comes to the job on a “short-term consultancy basis”.
Enoka has helped All Blacks win the Rugby World Cup on two separate occasions in 2011 and 2015.
His now-famous policy was revealed back in 2017, when Enoka said: “A d***head makes everything about them.
“We look for early warning signs and wean the big egos out pretty quickly. Our motto is, ‘If you can’t change the people, change the people’.”
