Roberto De Zerbi signs a contract extension at Brighton despite Man City and Real Madrid interest

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is poised to thwart the hopes of his numerous suitors by committing to a new contract with the Seagulls.

De Zerbi has garnered significant praise since taking charge on the south coast, particularly for his attacking brand of football. The Italian’s possession-oriented approach has drawn parallels with Pep Guardiola’s style at Manchester City, positioning De Zerbi as a potential successor to the latter. Nonetheless, as reported by Football Insider, De Zerbi is expected to reject interest from Europe’s top clubs and continue leading Brighton.

While De Zerbi’s new contract with Brighton doesn’t definitively rule out a future move to clubs like Manchester City or Real Madrid, it aligns with Brighton’s strategy of securing their key assets before potential departures for higher fees.

A notable example is Moises Caicedo, who left for Chelsea in a record-breaking transfer. However, the decision to sign a new contract reflects De Zerbi’s dedication to the ongoing project at Brighton.

Since De Zerbi assumed the managerial role, Brighton has been quite prolific in the Premier League, with only Manchester City (104), Arsenal (98), and Newcastle (91) scoring more goals than the Seagulls (88).

Brighton will journey to west London to take on Chelsea this Sunday, aiming to capitalize on any points dropped by Newcastle, Manchester United, and Tottenham, who are currently positioned just ahead of them in the standings.
