David De Gea in line for a shock Newcastle move following Pope’s unfortunate injury

Newcastle United is contemplating a move for ex-Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea following a long-term injury to Nick Pope.

During the Premier League clash against Manchester United on Saturday, Nick Pope fell awkwardly and dislocated his shoulder. Journalist Mike McGrath suggests that the goalkeeper will be out for up to five months pending the results of a scan.

Given Pope’s potential extended absence, Newcastle United is reportedly contemplating recruiting former Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, as per the Daily Mail.

David De Gea has been a free agent since departing Manchester United when his contract expired in the summer. Although linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, specifically with Al-Nassr expressing interest, as well as rumored connections to Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami, no deal materialized.

Now, with the potential of returning to the Premier League, De Gea has received an offer from Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League, managed by Steven Gerrard.

Nick Pope’s injury is a significant setback for Newcastle United and the player. This impacts his chances of securing a spot in England’s Euro 2024 squad. The goalkeeper has been in excellent form this Premier League season, leading the clean sheet charts with six shutouts, one more than Manchester United’s Andre Onana.
