Manchester United change medical personnel amid injury crisis

Manchester United is poised to implement changes in their medical department following a series of injuries to key players during this season.

Manager Erik ten Hag has had to navigate without the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Casemiro, Mason Mount, and Christian Eriksen for extended periods due to injuries. But now Manchester United plans to overhaul their medical department to combat some of these issues. The adjustments to the medical staff will be overseen by Gary O’Driscoll, the head of sports medicine, as reported by Mail Online.

Gary O’Driscoll, who joined United from Arsenal in the summer, is expected to propose several recommendations to Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team once their 25 percent stake in the club is officially confirmed.

O’Driscoll aims to modernize Manchester United’s strategies by incorporating innovative methods and a forward-thinking approach. The planned revamp involves the recruitment of younger professionals to the staff and a deliberate effort to enhance diversity within the medical team. Concerns have emerged at United, expressing apprehension that their current methods are outdated, and there is a perception that their competitors have made significant advancements in the field of sports medicine.

Manchester United faced setbacks as Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire suffered injuries in the match against Bayern, potentially leaving them with a shortage of 13 senior players for the upcoming clash with Liverpool on Sunday.

Shaw and Maguire join the ranks of Martinez, Casemiro, Mount, Tyrell Malacia, Eriksen, Amad Diallo, and Victor Lindelof, who are already on the injury list. There are uncertainties surrounding Antony Martial and Marcus Rashford, who missed the Bayern game due to illness. Additionally, Jadon Sancho has been excluded from the main squad, and Bruno Fernandes is suspended, creating further challenges for United ahead of the Liverpool match.
