Nuno Espirito Santo on the verge of replacing Steve Cooper as Nottingham Forest manager

Nuno Espirito Santo has emerged as a possible alternative for Nottingham Forest if they opt for a managerial change.

Head coach Steve Cooper is facing scrutiny due to a stretch of one win in 13 Premier League games. Nottingham Forest had already explored the potential interest of former Wolverhampton Wanderers, Spain, and Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui in the role.

Additionally, the Forest leadership has considered Oliver Glasner, the Austrian manager who guided Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt to the Champions League, with the latter winning the Europa League in the 2021-22 season. Now, Nuno Espirito Santo, who recently departed from his position with Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, is also a person of interest for Forest.

While Steve Cooper will remain in charge for the upcoming match against Bournemouth at the City Ground on Saturday, Nottingham Forest has been actively exploring alternative options. This contingency plan is there in case the former Swansea manager cannot spark a turnaround in the team’s form.

Looking ahead, Forest will play an away fixture against Newcastle on Boxing Day, followed by a visit from Manchester United on Saturday, December 30. Despite recent challenges, Cooper continues to enjoy popularity among fans, having successfully guided Forest back into the Premier League after a 23-year absence. Notably, he has overseen improved performances in the team’s last two matches, securing a 1-1 draw at Wolves and a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham.

On the other hand, Nuno previously led Wolves to promotion from the Championship in 2018 and achieved an impressive seventh-place finish in the Premier League with the team.
