Klopp amazed by the ‘strong’ Arsenal

Jurgen Klopp admired Arsenal’s strength in their 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield, acknowledging that the Gunners remained a formidable opponent.

Despite the thrilling encounter that ended with first-half goals from Gabriel and Mohamed Salah, Klopp also believed his team should have scored more. The entertaining draw kept Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.

Both teams registered 13 shots on goal, with the hosts having three shots on target compared to the visitors’ two. Klopp praised Mikel Arteta’s team while acknowledging that Liverpool also performed well, yet he conceded they could have been more clinical. Notably, Trent Alexander-Arnold missed a crucial chance to secure a late victory for Liverpool.

Klopp told¬†BBC Match of the Day: “Oh my god, how strong are they? The good news is we are good as well. In a game like this, going down early to a set piece is tough, especially with the speed of Arsenal. But the game we played, how we started second half we should have scored. We pass instead of shoot, four or five times we do that, it’s a lesson. But generally the game is great.”

Arsenal is likely to be more content, being at the top of the table at Christmas, and securing a result at Anfield is always a positive outcome. Meanwhile, Liverpool definitely wanted more than the two points earned from league matches against a struggling Manchester United and the high-flying Gunners.

However, with only one point separating the two teams, they might regret missing the opportunity to widen the gap between themselves and the defending champions, Manchester City.

Liverpool will resume playing on Boxing Day with an away match against Burnley, who are facing the threat of relegation, while Arsenal will host the in-form West Ham two days later.
