Sean Dyche fumes at VAR for ‘over-reffing’ Everton’s goal

Everton boss Sean Dyche wasn’t at all happy with VAR’s decision to disallow Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal in their defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Following Everton‘s loss against Spurs, Dyche voiced his displeasure regarding the disallowed goal due to an Andre Gomes foul on Emerson Royal during the build-up. In the 51st minute, with the score at 2-0, Gomes made a challenge from behind on Emerson to gain possession, although the force applied was minimal.

The disallowed goal, which could have narrowed the deficit and potentially altered the outcome of the game, left Dyche lamenting the ruling.

Unhappy with the decision to rule out the goal, Dyche said: “I’m a big fan of VAR but I don’t know where that one lives today because I think VAR has over-reffed the moment. The referee and the linesperson has an amazing view, they’ve made the decision with all their experience of doing it. It goes out of the window because they can find contact.

“They find contact with virtually everything. The amount of contact in the game we all know is alarming. They favour a penalty when someone has stepped on a toe. When you are stood on when you’re in the queue to get onto the tube, you don’t fall over. Apparently, that’s a penalty nowadays.”

Everton had a disappointing weekend, as their relegation rivals Burnley and Luton secured three points each, capitalizing on Everton’s setbacks.

Dyche’s team currently holds a precarious four-point lead over the relegation zone, compounded by a 10-point deduction for violating Financial Fair Play rules. This week also saw another instance of a manager criticizing officials or VAR for their decisions during crucial moments of the game.
