Burnley has secured promotion back to the Premier League under the leadership of Vincent Kompany after an impressive campaign in the Championship
Burnley has earned promotion back to the Premier League after winning the Championship campaign under the leadership of Vincent Kompany.
They sealed their promotion with a 2-1 victory against Middlesbrough. Burnley was relegated last season, which ended their six-year stay in the top division.
Burnley has had a successful first season under the leadership of Vincent Kompany, having lost only two games so far in the 2022-23 season.
Kompany’s Burnley achieve something ‘very special’
The team secured promotion back to the Premier League with a 2-1 win at Middlesbrough, thanks to goals from Ashley Barnes and Connor Roberts. The victory was sealed despite a penalty from Middlesbrough’s Chuba Akpom.
Burnley’s 25th win of the season has secured promotion with seven games remaining.
Burnley chairman Alan Pace told Sky Sports after promotion was confirmed: “Vincent has done something that’s very, very special.
“This was a complete surprise, this was not our plan. Vincent and I talked about it in the summer, we gave ourselves two, three years was our plan. I think what you’ve seen is a lot of magic coming together.
“This team is very, very good. You hear Vincent say it every week. They’re surprising each and every one of us every day, they’re phenomenal.”
Sheffield United, who were relegated in 2021, are currently 11 points behind Burnley in the Championship table.
They are hoping to secure promotion, while Luton Town are in third place, eight points behind Sheffield United but with a game in hand.
