Martin Odegaard hits back at Arsenal’s laughable celebration police

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard responded to Jamie Carragher’s criticism of his post-win celebration against Liverpool.

Following Arsenal’s emphatic win against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium, TV cameras captured Odegaard taking pictures with club photographer Stuart MacFarlane.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher suggested that the players should have headed straight to the tunnel, with co-pundit Gary Neville arguing that it reflects the team’s “immaturity.”

Carragher later clarified that his remarks were a jest, referencing Neil Warnock’s famous ‘get down the tunnel’ comments.

When asked after the game if he thought the celebrations were over-exuberant, Odegaard said [via Sky Sports News on X]: “I think everyone who loves football, who understands football, they know how much it means to win this game. And if you’re not allowed to celebrate when you win a game, when are you allowed to celebrate? We are happy with the win and we’ll stay humble. We keep working hard and we prepare for the next one but you have to be happy when you win.”

Goals from Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Leandro Trossard secured a win for Mikel Arteta’s team, propelling them to second place, surpassing Manchester City.

Following the final whistle, Arteta displayed enthusiasm by running down the touchline to celebrate, punctuating the moment by pumping his fists in the air to acknowledge the jubilant fans.

The victory positions the Gunners, who faced challenges in the 2022-23 season, firmly in contention for the championship. With this win, Arteta’s team is now just two points behind leaders Liverpool.

The Gunners will face West Ham on Sunday, February 11, aiming to assert their title aspirations against another formidable opponent, their London neighbors.
