Erik ten Hag’s doubts about the extent of Lisandro Martinez’ injury were true!

Manchester United center-back Lisandro Martinez has dodged an ACL injury and will be making a comeback in about two months’ time.

The Argentina international, recently back from a severe foot injury, incurred knee damage during Sunday’s 3-0 triumph over West Ham United. He initially attempted to continue playing but had to exit the field midway through the second half.

Manager Erik ten Hag expressed concern about the injury after the match, and there were immediate fears of a season-ending ACL injury. However, as initially reported by Gaston Edul and subsequently confirmed by various sources, Martinez has received a diagnosis of a sprained collateral ligament in his knee, eliminating the need for surgery.

Consequently, Martinez is projected to spend six to eight weeks on the sidelines and is expected to make a competitive return in April.

United will visit Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea on 3 April, followed by a match against Liverpool at Old Trafford three days later. Bournemouth, Newcastle, and Burnley are also part of the April schedule, with United concluding their Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace, Arsenal, and finally Brighton on 19 May.

Managing without Lisandro Martinez due to an injury is not a new challenge for Ten Hag, who had to cope without the 26-year-old for 12 games towards the end of the last season and 22 across all competitions so far this year.

Ten Hag has previously expressed concerns about pairing Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire in defense. Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans serve as the senior alternatives, while 19-year-old Willy Kambwala has also seen playing time this season.
