Arsenal will face a £25,000 fine after six of their players received bookings during their clash against Liverpool.
In a heated match where the Gunners defeated the league leaders 3-1, seven players were booked, including six yellow cards and a red card for Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate. Three of Arsenal’s starting defenders, Ben White, William Saliba, and Gabriel Magalhaes, were cautioned, along with substitute Jakub Kiwior, who replaced Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Additionally, Declan Rice and Kai Havertz received yellow cards later in the game, bringing Arsenal’s total bookings to six. According to INews, the Premier League will impose a fine of £25,000 on the north London club for the high number of yellow cards.
Earlier in the season, both Chelsea and Liverpool were fined for having at least six players booked in a single match. In October, Liverpool had eight players receive yellow cards in a match against Tottenham Hotspur, while six Chelsea players were cautioned in a game against Wolves on Christmas Eve.
The celebrations of Arsenal players and manager Mikel Arteta drew criticism for being over-the-top following their victory in the clash. Sports presenter Richard Keys heavily criticized the actions of the Arsenal manager on the sidelines after the full-time whistle was blown.
Next up Arteta’s side will face West Ham United away from home in the Premier League on Sunday.
