Mohamed Salah spotted back in Liverpool’s training

Mohamed Salah returned to Liverpool training on Tuesday as he edges closer to recovery from a hamstring injury sustained early in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Mohamed Salah’s return to Liverpool for treatment during the tournament sparked controversy, leading him to publicly refute allegations of abandoning his national team.

Although initially intended to rejoin Egypt for later AFCON matches, their unexpected elimination allowed Salah to focus solely on his rehabilitation.

Having missed the last four Premier League fixtures, Salah rejoined training on Tuesday in preparation for Saturday’s clash against Brentford.

Goalkeeper Alisson and defender Joe Gomez, both absent from the recent 3-1 victory over Burnley due to illness, were also seen training. Young right-back Conor Bradley, who had left for personal reasons, returned to training as well.

However, midfielder Thiago Alcantara finds himself back on the sidelines with a new muscular injury, suffered during his brief five-minute appearance in the recent defeat to Arsenal. This setback comes after his first appearance since April 2023. Meanwhile, midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai remains sidelined.

Despite these setbacks, Liverpool sits atop the Premier League table. As the early kick-off on Saturday, they have an opportunity to increase pressure on rivals Manchester City and Arsenal with a win against Brentford.

The Reds hold a two-point lead over both rivals, although City has a game in hand. Pep Guardiola’s side faces Chelsea later on Saturday, presenting an opportunity for Liverpool to extend their lead at the summit.
