Ange Postecoglou makes a funny quip about Son’s injury

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou remains unconcerned about Son Heung-min’s finger injury, affirming that Son will continue to play regardless of its condition.

Son suffered a dislocated finger during an altercation with international teammate Lee Kang-in while representing South Korea at the Asian Cup last month and has been playing with it strapped up ever since.

Despite the injury, the 31-year-old delivered an impressive performance in Spurs’ 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday, contributing his team’s third goal to seal the win.

During his post-match press conference, Postecoglou talked about Son’s comfort level and whether he was monitoring the injury closely.

“It’s a finger. Even if he loses it, don’t really matter,” Postecoglou said with deadpan delivery before the press room filled with laughter. “He can still play, he’s fine.”

Postecoglou on Son: He’s fine

However, Postecoglou did disclose that midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, who was excluded from the starting lineup and only entered the match for the final 15 minutes as a substitute, had been dealing with a recent back problem. Nevertheless, Postecoglou clarified that the issue was not a major cause for concern.

“He’s had a bit of a back issue since he got back from the Africa Cup of Nations,” Postecoglou said of Sarr. “He’s been dealing with it and it’s getting better but it’s not sort of totally free, so it’s something we’re working on with him.

“It doesn’t stop him training, he’s still been training, but it does restrict him, it’s something we’re constantly working on but from what I understand he’ll be fine. Like I said he hasn’t missed training so it’s just something we’re working on with him.”

On Sunday, Tottenham will resume action with a visit to Aston Villa, who are contenders for a top-four spot. Spurs go into the match trailing their hosts by five points but with a game in hand.
