Arteta claims Arsenal slowly ‘heading towards’ Man city’s champion standard

The two rivals will meet on Wednesday, the outcome of which could possibly change the Premier League winner

Mikel Arteta wants his team to meet the challenge in front of them by beating Manchester City in order to reach their champion standard.

Arsenal is charged with ‘anger and desire’

Man City has the perfect chance to move above Arsenal in the table for the first time in weeks. But Arteta claims his side will rise to the challenge.

“What [City] have done the last six years, they absolutely merit it, they merit it on the pitch, the way they play, the way they have competed, the way they have gone through difficulties,” said Arteta.

This is what we want to be. This is the level and we are heading towards it.”

“For us, the challenge is to get to that level. We need to use that challenge and that energy. This is what we want to be. This is the level and we are heading towards it.”

Arteta refused to comment on the VAR farce against Brentford, instead, he talked about the motivation inside Arsenal’s camp.

“There is great energy,” he said. “I sensed it since I arrived from after the Brentford game.

“From the staff and everyone at the club, there was a mixture of anger and desire to play the next game. We need to use that.”

Arteta wants Arsenal supporters to show their passion against Manchester City, saying: “We will play with 15 players. They are so into it for every single ball, giving us energy, support.

“Let’s enjoy a beautiful night and a really special day.”
