Marotta: Andre Onana will stay at Inter despite rumors

Manchester United were handed a transfer blow as Internazionale CEO Beppo Marotta claims goalkeeper Andre Onana is set to stay at San Siro.

Manchester United’s search for a David De Gea replacement has hit a snag as their prime target Andre Onana has been denied an exit from Inter Milan by CEO Marotta.

According to recent media reports, there was a lot of speculation that the 27-year-old player might be transferred once the season ends. Chelsea is also reportedly interested in acquiring the player in exchange for either Kepa Arrizabalaga or Edouard Mendy.

Amid these rumors, however, Inter chief executive Marotta has said the shot-stopper isn’t up for sale, as quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport. “It is difficult to predict the future,” he said. “But we have not received any offers and the goalkeeper wants to stay here. We do not intend to put him on the market.”

It is rumored that Onana has been valued at €40m (£35m/$44m), even though he signed a four-year contract with Milan only last year after leaving Ajax when his contract expired.

It is uncertain whether the CEO’s statement is a strategy to maintain the goalkeeper’s transfer value or if Onana is genuinely not available for transfer. Regardless, Onana will aim to make a strong impression in the upcoming Champions League semi-final match against AC Milan on Tuesday.
