Chelsea reportedly attempted to sign Rafael Leao from AC Milan in 2022 by offering Christian Pulisic in a part-exchange deal.
Chelsea was prepared to offer Moroccan winger Hakim Ziyech in addition to Christian Pulisic in a part-exchange deal for Rafael Leao, in an attempt to lure the talented Portuguese forward away from AC Milan in 2022.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea placed a €100 million (£87m/$109m) price tag on Leao. They offered Pulisic as part of the deal to reduce the cost. The Blues were also open to including Hakim Ziyech in the deal. However, Milan were not swayed and informed Chelsea that Leao had a release clause worth €150m (£131m/$163m) in his contract.
After the failure of the part-exchange package deal involving Pulisic. Chelsea decided not to pursue the transfer of Leao from AC Milan. However, Chelsea has not given up on the idea of signing Leao and has been monitoring his availability.
The Blues could consider reigniting their interest in the Portuguese forward during the upcoming transfer window, especially with Pulisic and Ziyech struggling for playing time.
Rafael Leao has reportedly signed a new contract with AC Milan after scoring 13 goals for the Serie A club this season. The new contract is said to have raised the release clause for the Portuguese forward to €175m (£152m/$190m).
