Pioli admits confidence in Pulisic

Stefano Pioli has ‘no doubts’ about Pulisic’s Serie A impact, revealing advice to Leao after Milan’s 2-0 win over Bologna.

In the opening 20 seconds, the Rossoneri faced a significant risk as Charalampos Lykogiannis struck the crossbar. However, they had already taken a 2-0 lead by the 21st minute at the Stadio Dall’Ara.

The new acquisitions immediately contributed when Christian Pulisic delivered a cross-field pass, and Tijjani Reijnders volleyed it back from the by-line for Olivier Giroud to score.

Then, Pulisic completed a give-and-go with Giroud, and he blasted the goal in on his Serie A debut.

Pioli said: “I think the more you give the ball to players with quality, the better your odds of scoring a goal. It doesn’t matter if it is Rafael Leao or anyone else.”

“We need to work more to find a better balance, but those who have arrived certainly know how to play football and that is a good place to start from. With only four friendlies and this season’s opener behind us, there’s work ahead, but we’re heading in the right direction.”

Pulisic left a significant mark on his Serie A debut, scoring a goal and playing a vital role in Giroud’s opener, while Reijnders displayed versatility across defense, midfield, and attack.

This signifies an excellent start for the new signings, especially since Marco Pellegrino will arrive at Linate Airport tonight, becoming their ninth summer acquisition.

Pioli added: “I am satisfied because I requested specific role characteristics from the directors instead of mentioning names, and they provided them. The experienced players have aided the newcomers in adapting swiftly, and the new recruits are adjusting to an unfamiliar style of football.”

“I always knew Pulisic was a talent, this was never in doubt. In the phone call I had with him before he signed, it was evident that he was bringing a lot of quality to the squad. On top of that, he is also a very versatile player who can fill in for Leao or play behind the striker when needed.”
