Mourinho opens up about the Azmoun and Lukaku deals

Jose Mourinho has emphasized his patient anticipation for a fresh striker amidst Roma’s ongoing negotiations with Chelsea over Romelu Lukaku.

In an unexpected turn of events, the Giallorossi have emerged as contenders for the 30-year-old Belgian forward’s signature following a tumultuous summer transfer window. Initially pursued by Inter, Lukaku’s attentions eventually shifted to Juventus.

As the final week of the summer transfer window approaches, and Lukaku remains without a new club, Roma is aiming to secure him on a loan deal, an option that Chelsea has recently entertained.

During a press conference, Mourinho addressed the acquisition of Sadar Azmoun.

“When the director proposed Azmoun to me, he told me that another one is coming. If the other is a quality striker… Belotti Azmoun and another, we have good options in attack. I’m quietly waiting. Now I’m thinking about tomorrow, we’ve worked on this, and we hope.”

Jose Mourinho spoke about his expectations from the Hellas Verona fans.

“They’ll be 3000 good ones. The other day at the Olimpico was full, but some didn’t play. Maybe they were busier doing something else. Real fans were few. These Verona fans will be there to cheer the team on a Saturday in August.

“With them we lost once, then won at the end with Volpato. It was always very difficult. New coach very good, plays differently from last year. He decided to return to the stability of previous years. We are prepared for the two solutions.

“Very hot, very hard, but we did it. We got Lorenzo and Paulo back after missing the first game. We lost Renato due to a small problem. He won’t be there.

“We want to leave Verona with four points. Tiago told me he will work hard to get another striker. He works quietly that I work with the team and the available players.”

Mourinho a bit laid back about the Lukaku deal

The Portuguese coach was asked if he was worried about the new signings.

“If we go to a club to buy a player who has had a great season, it’s not that we don’t have the economic capacity. We have to adapt with the risks we have. Is it a surprise that Renato cannot play tomorrow?

“If you see his history, that is. If he’s fit, he’s a starter at PSG. He’s not coming to Roma. Dybala’s situation. Many were doubtful about his condition. We’ve become specialists in coaching people like that. Great past, great potential. We try to get the best of them. At the level they’ve had.

“That’s our reality. Low expectations. We work, we give it our all. Maybe it’s strange for you to see me so calm. For me, tomorrow is important.”
