Genoa joins Lazio in the race to sign Leonardo Bonucci

Genoa has initiated discussions with Leonardo Bonucci in an effort to outmaneuver Lazio and Union Berlin for the services of the Juventus veteran.

Massimiliano Allegri, the coach of the Bianconeri, has excluded the 36-year-old Italian central defender from the Turin squad and omitted him from the pre-season tour to the United States.

With one year remaining on his contract with Juventus, Bonucci has engaged in negotiations with both Lazio and Union Berlin in recent months, yet a transfer away from the Piedmont capital has not yet been finalized.

According to information provided by Gianluca Di Marzio, Genoa has reached out to Bonucci to commence exploratory discussions regarding a potential move during the final week of the summer transfer window.

While the 36-year-old has yet to secure an agreement with Union Berlin and would prefer to remain in Italy, he has not pursued a move to Lazio due to the absence of approval from Maurizio Sarri.

Genoa has actively sought to reinforce their squad this summer, securing acquisitions such as Mateo Retegui and Ruslan Malinovskyi.
