De Laurentiis: ‘Ukraine robbed against Italy’

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis is unequivocal in his belief that Ukraine was unjustly treated in the EURO 2024 qualifier against Italy.

In the waning moments of the game, Bryan Cristante’s challenge on Mykhailo Mudryk in the penalty area went unpunished, leaving Ukraine aggrieved. The referee and VAR opted not to intervene, sparking controversy and contributing to De Laurentiis’s assertion that Ukraine was unfairly treated.

There was discussions and debates surrounding the incident. However, Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis remains unwavering in his belief that Ukraine was treated unjustly during the EURO 2024 qualifier against Italy.

“Nobody wants to see a team robbed the way Ukraine were last night by Italy. They clearly should’ve had a penalty.” said De Laurentiis as part of the presentation of a new book.

The situation became a bit awkward. Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis was sitting with Napoli players Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Matteo Politano. Both of them were representing Italy in the match.

“In truth, you played well. Better than most times I have seen the Nazionale. And you deserved to qualify. Ukraine were motivated by the war. They had a dream and it was not made into reality. Then again, if everything was easy, it wouldn’t be a dream.”

Ukraine can still qualify for EURO 2024. They are one of 12 teams entering the play-offs in March 2024.
