Napoli suffered a 4-0 defeat against Milan on Sunday in a match where Victor Osimhen was absent due to injury. However, the Nigerian striker could potentially make a comeback in the rematch against Milan on Wednesday
Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti is optimistic that Victor Osimhen will be available for their Champions League quarter-final match against Milan.
However, the striker is unlikely to play in the match against Lecce on Friday, as he is still recovering from a thigh injury that he sustained while playing for Nigeria during the last international break.
Napoli were impacted by Victor Osimhen’s absence during their 4-0 loss to Milan, but they are optimistic about his chances of playing in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final rematch against the same opponents.
Napoli will first aim to bounce back in the Serie A title race with the Lecce match before heading to San Siro for the European clash.
Spalletti tells of Victor Osimhen’s chances of facing Milan
No player in Serie A has scored as many goals as Victor Osimhen this season. The Nigerian striker netting 21 goals so far, at least seven more than any other player in the league.
His closest competitor in the scoring charts is Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan with 14 goals. Osimhen has been in good form since the start of the year, scoring 15 goals across all competitions. Victor Osimhen is only surpassed by Karim Benzema and Marcus Rashford who have scored 17 goals each in the top five European leagues.
“The week developed in the best possible way, I saw some great training sessions,” Spalletti said. “It always amazes me, I’ve only had this a few times in my career.
“It’s a very important match, we know how to face it. A performance is needed in these cases, after a defeat.
“We still need five victories, 15 points, then everyone can say what they want.”
