Gasperini raises doubts over Atalanta’s disallowed goal against Roma

Gian Piero Gasperini believes that there are doubts and suspicions regarding Atalanta’s disallowed goal against Roma.

A Teun Koopmeiners header had given La Dea an early lead at the Stadio Olimpico, but Paulo Dybala equalized with a penalty following a clumsy intervention by Matteo Ruggeri on Rick Karsdorp.

In stoppage time, Jose Mourinho received a red card for dissent, leading to the refusal of the Special One, as well as all Roma players and staff, to engage with the media.

“Undoubtedly, it is a good point for us, as Carnesecchi made some good saves, but we too had chances. For example, a big opportunity with De Ketelaere when already 1-0 up.

“Lukaku and Dybala raise the level of a strong team, but clearly we could’ve avoided the penalty situation. The disallowed Scamacca goal also leaves us with many doubts.

“It was not an easy atmosphere to play in, as shown by the fact that we had six yellow cards and Roma only one, despite having the same number of fouls. Considering the situation created, we undoubtedly find satisfaction in leaving here with a point.”

In stoppage time, dissent led to Jose Mourinho’s sending off, prompting the Special One, Roma players, and staff to reject media interaction. However, Atalanta protested, notably the disallowed Scamacca goal due to a slight push on Nicola Zalewski.

Gasperini added: “In my view, that is not a foul and Zalewski is already going down. Do you think that is a foul?” continued Gasperini.

“I do not condemn the referee at all, because it was like being at a bullfighting ring today and it is almost impossible for referees to officiate calmly in these situations.”
