Aldair thinks Mourinho will leave Roma

Aldair, a Roma legend, believes José Mourinho will depart from the Giallorossi at the end of the season.

Aldair, the former Brazilian defender, who secured a World Cup and a Serie A title during his playing career, shared his thoughts on Roma‘s season on Monday. He spoke after attending an event in Milan to launch the 2023-24 Serie A ‘Panini’ album sticker.

Mourinho received a red card in a 1-1 draw against Atalanta at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday night. With his contract expiring in June, there is speculation about whether the Special One will prolong his tenure in the capital.

“It’s hard to tell if Mourinho will stay. There were rumours he would leave last summer, and to me, he’s unlikely to remain.” Aldair told reporters.

Aldair: Mourinho did what he could at Roma

Mourinho has emphasized that his main goal is to remain at the Stadio Olimpico. Conversely, his compatriot Tiago Pinto will depart the club next month, as Roma has chosen not to extend a new deal to the Portuguese director.

“It was surprising. He did what he could at Roma. They’ve never had a lot of money, but he always fulfilled his duties. I am sorry he goes,” said Aldair.

“Roma’s main target remains the Champions League, but other teams, such as Torino, Bologna and Fiorentina, are playing well.” continued Aldair, the former Brazilian defender.

“Many didn’t expect these teams to do so well. But this is Roma’s target because Inter and Juventus are too far away.”

Roma’s 1-1 draw with Atalanta places them outside European qualification in Serie A, currently sitting eighth, four points behind fourth-placed Fiorentina. Their upcoming Serie A fixture is against Milan, but before that, they face a crucial Coppa Italia quarter-final against Lazio.

“A derby is always a special game. Both teams are not in a great moment, and anything can happen, but it would be great for Roma to go ahead by winning this match.” noted Aldair.
