Recent updates suggest that Julen Lopetegui, former coach of Spain, Real Madrid, and Wolves, is the leading candidate to replace Stefano Pioli at Milan.
Despite being out of contention for the 2023-24 Serie A title, Milan still aims for trophies this season, especially in the Europa League. However, recent reports indicate that Pioli’s tenure might end if the Rossoneri finish the season without a title.
According to transfer expert Matteo Moretto and Spanish outlet Relevo, the Milan board holds Julen Lopetegui in high regard for his methodology and talent in constructing a successful project centered on young players.
Recently, Lopetegui turned down lucrative offers from the Middle East, specifically from Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League. Instead, they chose to hire Argentine Marcelo Gallardo in mid-November.
Bayer Leverkusen is reportedly keeping an eye on Julen Lopetegui in case Xabi Alonso moves to a larger club in the summer.
Lopetegui has been without a job since his short spell in the Premier League with Wolves. He guided them to a 13th-place finish after taking over when they were bottom of the table in November 2022.
Before his time with Wolves, Julen Lopetegui led Sevilla to victory over current Serie A leaders Inter in the 2020 Europa League final.
