Casillas believes the end of Juve dominance is good for Italian football

The former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas claims that it is positive for Italian football that other teams have started to challenge Juventus’ dominance of the league title

According to a recent interview with DAZN, former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas expressed his delight that other teams have started to challenge Juventus for the Serie A title. He also stated that he has always enjoyed watching Italian football. But found it dull when Juventus dominated the league and there was no competition.

Casillas told viewers: “I liked Serie A a lot when I was young. especially when it was considered the best league in the world.  All the greatest players played there.

“The truth is that Serie A went through a period in which only Juventus won and it had become a bit boring. But now the fact that Napoli. as well as Inter and Milan in recent years have stopped Juve’s dominance is good for Italian football.

“Have I ever thought about playing in Serie A? To tell the truth, yes, I have the utmost respect for all teams, but Real Madrid is Real Madrid.”

Juventus won nine consecutive Serie A titles from the 2010-11 season until the 2019-20 season.

However, their streak was ended by Inter under Antonio Conte, who prevented them from winning a tenth successive title. The most recent Serie A title was won by Stefano Pioli’s Milan.

It seems highly likely that Napoli will win the Serie A title this season, which would mark the third different team to win the league within a span of three years.

The last time this happened was between 2000 and 2002, when Lazio, Roma, and Juventus each won a title.

Serie A saw four different teams win the championship in four consecutive years between the 1988-89 and 1991-92 seasons, with Inter, Napoli, Sampdoria and Milan all claiming one title each during that period.
