Angel Di Maria’s contract with Juventus ends in the summer but he is already in talks to extend his stay at Turin
Juventus saw off Europa League round of 16 opponents Freiburg last night as Angel Di Maria scored a header to make it 1-0. The 35-year-old winger, who has been excellent recently, revealed after the match that he is discussing a new contract with Juventus.
Allegri happy with Di Maria’s performance
A cross from Filip Kostic in the 53rd-minute saw Di Maria score his seventh goal in his last six European appearances. The Argentine World Cup hero also scored a hattrick against Nantes in the last round. The 35-year-old had a rocky start to life at Turin but he is already talking with the club about extending his stay.
“I’m happy to have helped the team, we are doing a good job and we must continue like this,” he told Sky. “The important thing was to win, and we did it.
“We will do our best [to reach the final of this competition]. We will try to win both the Coppa Italia and the Europa League.
“We’re talking, I’m happy here, and I’m finally feeling the affection of the people after a difficult start.”
Juve boss Max Allegri also heaped praise on Angel Di Maria’s performance, saying: “Tonight, [Di Maria] scored a wonderful goal but, above all, he gave an extraordinary performance.
“We played a very good match tonight, with great intensity and good technically. The only thing we missed too many times was the last pass. We could have chosen better and that made the difference.
“In Freiburg, it won’t be easy, but the thing that makes me think positive is that they will give us spaces, and we will have to exploit them.”
