In Enschede, Roberto Mancini’s Italy secured a 3-2 victory over the Netherlands in the third-place play-off of the Nations League.
Roberto Mancini’s team, achieving Nations League bronze for the second consecutive tournament, had a strong start with Federico Dimarco and Davide Frattesi scoring to give them a 2-0 lead within 20 minutes.
The Netherlands’ Steven Bergwijn managed to reduce the deficit in the second half, but Italy’s Federico Chiesa responded with a goal four minutes later, extending their lead to 3-1. Georginio Wijnaldum’s goal in the 89th minute added some tension to the match.
But it wasn’t enough to prevent the Netherlands from suffering their third defeat in four games under manager Ronald Koeman during his second tenure.
The final of the Nations League will take place at Feyenoord’s De Kuip stadium in Rotterdam at 19:45 on Sunday, featuring Croatia against Spain.
