Lauren James wants to make her mark in the Women’s World Cup

Lauren James is determined to establish her identity as she prepares for her inaugural Women’s World Cup appearance.

Despite coming from a renowned footballing family, with her brother Reece achieving success as a Champions League winner and a regular England international with Chelsea, Lauren remains unfazed by the frequent association of her name with his.

However, as she gears up for the World Cup, the talented winger is eager to shine in her own right and make a name for herself.

Asked if she wants to carve out her name, James told reporters: “Yes I do feel like that, a lot. Even just, ‘That’s Lauren James, that’s Reece’s sister,’ but I want to carve that out and be known as, ‘This is Lauren James’. At the moment, men’s football’s profile is a lot bigger. It’s natural to just go – and I’m sure there are times when I’ve said – ‘Oh, that’s so-and-so’s sister’. But it doesn’t bother me too much because I know I have my own career.”

Lauren James has gone from a fan to become a Lioness herself

Set for her first major tournament, the 21-year-old also showed how motivating it was to see England win the Euros last year. “Watching it, going to the final last summer, it obviously made me feel more, like, ‘I want to make sure I’m there’ this summer,” she said. “It gave me a bit more motivation and hunger. I’d like to feel the same as what they felt last summer.”

Lauren James, a promising young talent from England, is fiercely vying for a starting position in the Lionesses’ lineup, showcasing her versatility both as a wide player and as a No.10. Particularly impressing in the latter role during the send-off friendly against Portugal, James has proven her capabilities.

Even if she doesn’t secure a spot in Sarina Wiegman’s starting XI, her presence on the bench will undoubtedly make a significant impact, as England strives to claim the title of world champions.
