Rummenigge comes to the defense of Rubiales in the wake of his kiss scandal

Former Bayern CEO and current UEFA executive Karl Heinz Rummenigge has called for people to calm down about that Rubiales kiss!

After Spain’s World Cup victory over England on Sunday, RFEF President Luis Rubiales has faced a backlash for being photographed kissing Spain midfielder Jennifer Hermoso during the celebrations.

Many prominent figures in Spain have criticized Rubiales, with the majority calling for his resignation from his position in Spanish football.

One individual who has supported Rubiales is Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the former CEO of Bayern Munich and current member of UEFA’s executive committee. According to Diario AS, Rummenigge believes that the situation has been exaggerated.

“I don’t think we have to exaggerate. When you proclaim yourself world champion, you get excited. What he did was – with all due respect – absolutely okay. I remember when we won the Champions League the last time, I got to kiss men. Not on the mouth, but with joy.”

Rummenigge’s remarks are likely to receive a negative reception in Spain, and those who deem them illogical given the current circumstances certainly have a valid argument.
