Fans urge Nike to produce replicas of England’s Mary Earps

A petition urging Nike to produce replicas of the shirt worn by England goalkeeper Mary Earps during the World Cup has garnered over 100,000 signatures.

In response, Nike issued a statement reaffirming their dedication to women’s football. However, Earps expressed her disappointment with the decision not to manufacture the shirt, describing it as “very hurtful.”

In the World Cup final, the Manchester United goalkeeper secured the Golden Glove award after making an impressive penalty save in the Lionesses’ 1-0 loss to Spain.

Before the tournament, Nike faced backlash when it became evident that replica shirts of Mary Earps would not be accessible for purchase. But This decision drew criticism from fans and supporters.

Nicknamed ‘Mary Queen of Stops,’ the 30-year-old goalkeeper expressed her deep disappointment and hurt regarding the previous decision.

On Tuesday afternoon, Earps posted a screenshot of the statement on her Instagram stories, adding the comment: “@Nike is this your version of an apology/taking accountability/a powerful statement of intent?”
