England women’s football team release statement in support of Jenni Hermoso following Luis Rubiales scandal

England’s women football team have publicly declared their support of Jennifer Hermoso amid the Luis Rubiales scandal.

The Lionesses, who lost against Spain in the World Cup final, have released a statement and vowed to stand by Hermoso.

England’s players posted the following message across social media on Friday night.

Unacceptable actions allowed to happen by a sexist and patriarchal organisation,” they wrote. “Abuse is abuse and we have all seen the truth.

“The behaviour of those who think they are invincible must not be tolerated and people shouldn’t need convincing to take action against any form of harassment.

“We all stand with you, @jennihermoso and all players of the Spanish team.”

The Spanish FA president, Luis Rubiales, kissed Jennifer Hermoso on the lips during a medals ceremony after the final. Rubiales has been widely criticised for his behavior, but he still refuses to resign from his position.

In a press conference on Friday, Rubiales claimed it was a ‘spontaneous’ and ‘consensual’ kiss, but Hermoso later issued a statement and denied his claims. Hermoso and her World Cup-winning teammates released a joint statement demanding Rubiales be sacked. The players also insisted they will not play for Spain again unless Rubiales is removed from his position.
