World Cup winner Irene Guerrero signs for Manchester United

Irene Guerrero has finalized her transfer to Manchester United following a summer in which she won the World Cup with Spain.

Guerrero, who played for Atletico Madrid, has officially joined Manchester United on the last day of the transfer window in a permanent deal. She was a member of the Spain squad that clinched victory in the 2023 Women’s World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand. Her focus will now be on achieving further success in the Women’s Super League.

With Guerrero’s arrival, Manchester United has secured their sixth signing of the summer, and there could be additional signings before the transfer window closes. The club is nearing a deal with Everton defender Gabby George, and they are also expected to secure the services of American goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce.

“I feel very happy and very privileged to be here,” she told the club’s media. “I am very proud to be part of the Manchester United family and look forward to achieving all our goals together.”

Head coach Mark Skinner expressed his joy at securing the signing of Guerrero and outlined the contributions she will make to his team.

“Irene is a World Cup winner whose quality is an excellent addition to our team,” he added. The experience she brings, both domestically and internationally, will be key as we pursue success across the multiple competitions we face this season. We are delighted to bring a player of Irene’s stature to Manchester United Women.”
