Arsenal Women’s star Leah Williamson ecstatic with men’s team victory over Man City

Leah Williamson received astonishing news on live TV that Arsenal’s men’s team were ahead against Manchester City, and she could hardly believe it.

The England captain, who led the Lionesses to victory in the 2022 European Championship, was occupied on Sunday afternoon at the Pride of Britain Awards.

She had been tuning into the Arsenal match while en route to the event and arrived just in time to witness Gabriel Martinelli score the sole goal of a high-stakes Premier League clash, with a deflection off Nathan Ake’s face contributing to the goal.

As she walked down the red carpet, Williamson, who also serves as vice-captain for Arsenal’s women’s team, found out about the pivotal goal in the fiercely contested match at the Emirates Stadium. Her excitement was evident as a broad smile lit up her face.

The Gunners star said, when recovering her bearings somewhat: “Are you joking?” She added after having it confirmed that Mikel Arteta’s side really had forced a breakthrough in the 86th minute: “Did you see my face then? That’s the best news I’ve had all day!”

Additionally, Williamson is in the process of recovering from an unfortunate ACL injury that ruled her out of participation in the 2023 Women’s World Cup for England. The 26-year-old is currently in light training as she approaches a comeback to competitive play.
