Trolls targeted Aston Villa and Switzerland star Alisha Lehmann for wearing makeup during her country’s 7-1 defeat to Spain.
In their Nations League clash with Spain, Lehmann began the match for Switzerland, and they suffered a resounding 7-1 loss as the world champions dominated. Following the defeat, the 24-year-old shared a post on Instagram with the message: “Never give up.”
Nevertheless, online trolls have since singled out the midfielder and directed their attacks at her, criticizing her for appearing to have worn a full face of makeup during the match.
One wrote: “Why all the make up during a game”
Other one commented: “Ever feel like a muppet being the only one with makeup on to play a sport.”
Another one wrote: “All that makeup just to lose 1-7 on home soil”.
Since 2021, Alisha Lehmann has been a part of Villa and has accumulated 44 caps for Switzerland, with seven goals to her name. She also participated in the 2023 World Cup, where her Swiss team suffered a 5-1 defeat to Spain in the Round of 16.
Switzerland will resume Nations League action in December, going up against Sweden and Italy. In the meantime, Lehmann will return to the pitch for Villa this weekend in a match against Chelsea, and she shared on Instagram that she has returned to the country.
