Chelsea has opted to exclude USWNT star Catarina Macario from their 2023-24 Champions League squad.
Macario, who joined Chelsea in June, is still recovering from a knee injury and has yet to make her debut for the team. Despite her absence, Chelsea has submitted their 24-player squad to UEFA, with Macario and Katerina Svitkova being left off the list.
If Chelsea advances to the knockout stage, Macario may have the opportunity to join the squad if Hayes decides to drop a player from her A list.

Catarina Macario last played for Lyon on June 1, 2022, before coming off 13 minutes into the game due to an ACL tear. She confirmed the injury a few days later and began a rehabilitation program. As a result, Macario missed the entire 2022-23 season and was unable to play in the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where the USWNT had their worst finish ever without her.
Chelsea Women are in Group D of the UEFA Women’s Champions League alongside Real Madrid, Hacken, and Paris FC. The team, led by Manager Emma Hayes, will kick off their Champions League campaign with a match against Real Madrid on November 15th in Spain.
