North Carolina Courage’s Kerolin Nicoli, a Brazilian international, clinched the 2023 NWSL MVP title for her standout attacking prowess.
On Friday, the NWSL revealed that the North Carolina Courage star had been chosen as the 2023 NWSL MVP, making her the first South American and fourth international player to claim this honor. Additionally, she is the inaugural Courage player to receive the award.
In the last game of the NWSL regular season against the Washington Spirit, the Brazil international suffered an ACL injury. This setback occurred during a crucial 1-0 victory that secured their spot in the postseason.
Despite the unfortunate turn of events on the final day, the 23-year-old Kerolin Nicoli has much to take pride in. She emerged as the Golden Boot runner-up with a career-high of 10 goals and contributed three assists during the regular season.
Securing victory for the second consecutive year, the Courage claimed the 2023 NWSL Challenge Cup this season, making them the first club to achieve back-to-back wins in the tournament. Kerolin played a pivotal role by scoring the opening goal in the final, where the Courage defeated Racing Louisville 2-0.
Regrettably, as previously mentioned, Kerolin sustained a season-ending injury, necessitating an extended period of recovery on the sidelines.
