Chelsea midfielder Sophie Ingle achieved a new milestone by setting a record for the most Women’s Super League (WSL) appearances in history.
Selected by Emma Hayes in Chelsea’s starting lineup against Liverpool, Ingle surpassed the previous record of 183 appearances, which she shared with former Birmingham City and Tottenham star Kerys Harrop.
Sophie Ingle, now 32 years old, initially joined Chelsea in the 2012/13 season but departed after one year to join Bristol City.
She later spent three seasons at Liverpool from 2015 to 2018 before making a return to Chelsea after a six-year gap. In recognition of her contributions to the game, she was honored with the prestigious Order of the British Empire (OBE) earlier this year.
Celebrating their player’s achievement, Chelsea wrote on X, “Sophie Ingle will today become the @BarclaysWSL all-time appearance record holder. What an achievement!”
In the upcoming clash against Liverpool, Emma Hayes’ Chelsea side aims to secure a victory and extend their lead at the top of the table to six points. The team is currently on a formidable six-match unbeaten run in the league, boasting five wins and a draw from their first six appearances.
