England international Chloe Kelly responds to Joey Barton’s sexist remarks about women in football

England star Chloe Kelly provided a brief and direct reply to Joey Barton’s remarks, where he suggested that women are not qualified to discuss the men’s game.

Former Man City midfielder Joey Barton expressed his disapproval of the increased presence of female commentators and pundits during Amazon Prime’s coverage of the midweek Premier League games on social media.

“Women shouldn’t be talking with any kind of authority in the men’s game,” the former Manchester City player posted on X. “Come on. Let’s be serious. It’s a completely different game.”

Joey Barton has reinforced and reiterated his earlier comments, directly targeting pundit and presenter Alex Scott during an appearance on TalkTV.

In response to a clip of Barton’s appearance on TalkTV, England star Chloe Kelly simply posted: “Football is football.”

Joey Barton, who was recently dismissed by Bristol Rovers following a controversial yet generally successful three-year tenure, has returned to the broader public spotlight due to his comments.

The former QPR and Newcastle star is known for his outspoken views and off-field exploits, frequently landing him in the headlines. His recent attack on female pundits, with phrases such as ‘woke agenda’ and ‘quotas,’ is likely to generate further attention on radio and TV in the coming days and weeks.
