Wubben-Moy to replace Bright as England prepare for Brazil clash

England’s squad has called up Lotte Wubben-Moy, the Arsenal defender, to play against Brazil, after Chelsea’s Millie Bright withdrew due to an injury.

After this weekend’s Women’s Super League games with the Gunners, the 24-year-old will join England’s 25-player squad.

Meanwhile, Bright will stay with Chelsea to continue her recovery from an injury that had kept her out of action since the first leg of the Blues’ UWCL quarter-final against Lyon, a match they eventually won dramatically.

England will face Brazil with Wubben-Moy representing Lionesses

Next Thursday, England will face Brazil, the reigning champions of South America, in the first-ever women’s Finalissima, which will be held at a sold-out Wembley Stadium.

Lotte Wubben-Moy has earned a call-up to the Lioness’ squad due to her solid defensive performances for the Gunners this season, which included an outstanding display as a substitute during Arsenal’s successful UWCL quarter-final on Wednesday, despite not being a part of the Lioness’ successful Euros campaign on home turf.

Chelsea’s statement reads: “The club can today confirm that defender Millie Bright has withdrawn from the England squad ahead of the Lionesses’ upcoming camp. Millie is undergoing assessment on an injury sustained during our UEFA Women’s Champions League first leg fixture against Lyon on 22 March. An update on Millie’s condition will be provided in due course.”

Sarina Wiegman’s side will host Australia, the hosts of the 2023 World Cup, in a match to support the Alzheimer’s Society at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium on April 11, following Thursday’s Finalissima.

Also, Brazil won’t have Marta in their squad due to her injury.
