SPOTY winner Mary Earps calls the incessant transfer rumors about her an ‘injustice’

Man United keeper Mary Earps has addressed the ongoing speculation about her future amid rumors connecting her to prominent European clubs.

Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, and Barcelona are reportedly considering bids for the English goalkeeper in the upcoming January transfer window. Earps’ current contract with Manchester United will expire at the end of the season, and while she has not yet agreed to a new deal, she expressed frustration with reports circulating about a potential transfer.

“I don’t know what happens currently,” she told BBC Sport when asked about her future. “I feel I’ve behaved really professionally and with a lot of integrity through this whole situation. And I play with heart and passion in everything I do and I drive standards. A lot of stuff that’s been put out, isn’t true. I want to say more but I can’t at this stage and it’s really hard for me to sit [and be] quiet when I see a lot of things that are not right. I think it’s an injustice but I know the appropriate thing to do is focus on my football and see what happens from there.”

The 30-year-old, recently crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year, attracted a record bid from Arsenal during the summer transfer window. Arsenal is reportedly maintaining its interest in her, as coach Jonas Eidevall is looking at potential new signings next month. However, PSG and Barcelona, European giants, are also reportedly in contention for her signature.

After a winter break, Earps and Manchester United will resume Women’s Super League action, facing reigning champions Chelsea on January 21. She might enter that game with another individual accolade, as she is up for the 2023 FIFA The Best Women’s Goalkeeper prize. The award ceremony is on January 15.
