Chelsea boss Emma Hayes has given an update on captain Millie Bright’s knee injury and shared her expectations for when she will return to action.
Bright, the Lionesses’ captain, injured her knee in November, missing vital matches for Chelsea and England. Due to Leah Williamson’s ACL injury, Bright led the team. She skipped two key Nations League games in December. Chelsea’s manager, Hayes, disclosed that Bright might be out until late February, including a crucial match this week.
Speaking to the media, Emma Hayes said [via @KathrynBatte on X]: “Do I think it will be before the international break? No, I don’t.”
Even though Chelsea’s captain was sidelined for nearly two months, it hasn’t hurt their performance in the league and cup. Leading the league, Chelsea also progressed to the fourth round in the FA Women’s Cup. The team aims to excel in the second half of the season for a fitting send-off to manager Emma Hayes, concluding her 12-year tenure as she transitions to the United States women’s national team.
After their winter break, Chelsea faces Manchester United on Sunday, January 21, marking their return to league action. As Emma Hayes mentioned, Bright won’t play for the Blues until after the late February international break.
