Cuthbert: Lauren James is a calm presence in Chelsea’s dressing room

Erin Cuthbert has disclosed that Lauren James consistently maintains a relaxed demeanor in the Chelsea dressing room.

After scoring a remarkable hat trick in her team’s triumph over Manchester United on Sunday, Lauren James delivered a surprisingly relaxed post-match interview. Now, teammate Cuthbert has provided insight into whether the England star maintains such composure within the Chelsea camp on a regular basis.

Having a fantastic season, James scored her second hat trick at Stamford Bridge against United last weekend. Her team has relied on her to step up, especially after the announcement that talismanic striker Sam Kerr will be out for the season due to an ACL injury. Mia Fishel started in Kerr’s place on Sunday, but James took on the No.9 role when the USWNT forward was substituted in the second half.

Scot told reporters: “That’s her general aura. She acts the same every day, but we’ve got a couple of players like that in the dressing room. I’ve learned since being here is everyone acts very differently as they are as a person and a character, but one thing we can never question, no matter what their character is, is their commitment to the team. Lauren showed exactly what she can do on Sunday.”

James has scored seven goals at Stamford Bridge this season, surpassing the tally of any other Chelsea player, both men and women. Raheem Sterling is her closest competitor, with five goals at the club’s long-time home during the 2023-24 campaign.

James aims to maintain her impressive performance as Real Madrid travels to west London in the Women’s Champions League on Wednesday night. Chelsea might soon welcome attacking reinforcements, as reports suggest that the Blues are nearing the completion of the signing of Colombian World Cup star Mayra Ramirez from Levante.
