Mallory Swanson updated fans on her status after admitting that she is still in shock following her horrible injury against Ireland.
After the U.S. women’s national team secured a 2-0 victory over Ireland, the American striker Mallory Swanson sustained a severe injury that resulted in a torn patella tendon, as announced by U.S. Soccer.
After the surgery, Swanson posted a message to her supporters on social media, indicating that she will miss the World Cup due to the injury.
Without Swanson, USWNT manager will have a difficult task finding a replacement for her
She wrote: “This is hard. I’m in shock and don’t have much to say other than, thank you to everyone for the messages.I feel the love and prayers, and holding them close to my heart.
“Surgery this morning was a success. I’m thankful for my trainers, doctors, coaches, and teammates for their help throughout this process.
“The beauty out of all of this, is that God is always good. He’s got me and always has,” Swanson added.
Swanson’s injury was a devastating blow as she was in the prime of her career and had been performing exceptionally well ahead of the World Cup.
With seven goals in her previous five games, Swanson was an integral part of the team and her absence will be sorely felt as the USWNT moves forward without her.
As USWNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski seeks to replace Swanson, he faces some tough decisions. Some players that could potentially take her place include Megan Rapinoe, Trinity Rodman, and Alyssa Thompson.
