Arsenal dealt a blow as captain Kim Little gets injured

Arsenal captain Kim Little has sustained a hamstring injury that will rule her out for the remainder of the season

Arsenal Women skipper Kim Little has been ruled out for the rest of the 2022-23 season due to a hamstring injury that she suffered during a Champions League match against Bayern Munich.

The 32-year-old former Scotland international is expected to return to the team at the beginning of next season.

A statement released on Arsenal’s official website reads: “We can confirm that Kim Little will miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury. Kim sustained the injury in our UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final win over Bayern Munich on 29 March and tests have subsequently confirmed that the injury will keep her sidelined for the remainder of the campaign. Our captain has already begun her rehabilitation and this process is progressing well. We expect her to be available for the start of preparations for the 2023-24 season. Our medical team will support Kim closely over the coming months and we look forward to see her back on the field of play soon.”

Kim Little returned to Arsenal for a second spell in 2017, and since then, she has made more than 100 appearances for the club.

Leah Williamson, who captained England to European Championship victory last year and led them to a Finalissima triumph over Brazil on April 6, will take over the captaincy at Arsenal in Little’s absence.
